Architectures and Archetypes
The texture of a body's architecture
The stature of a statue
The posture of too high standing pillars
Too tall to hold
Buildings Built On Buildings
Too Bold To Console
As Bold As Blood
BLACK VELVET - Architectures and Archetypes is the second installation in a trilogy of original multidisciplinary performance art works. It was created and premiered by Shamel Pitts, Mirelle Martins and Lucca del Carlo in Sao Paulo at Teatro Sergio Cardoso in 2016. It is a celebration of the beauty, delicacy, strength and the many textures within us. It is an art piece that shares and reflects on the colorfulness of blackness, especially in regard to black women in a relationship of love, compassion, and camaraderie.
An original work, embedded with the honesty of experience in the search for connection and understanding. These two artists' collaborative performance discovers, questions, and rediscovers the notion of natural self in an unnatural system. The beauty portrayed in their organic quality, and raw movement breathes poetic life in every second of the program.
“The dealing within structures of systems is to discover what is inside of us, between us, and around us to hopefully bridge the distances to see and meet each other. Some systems must be broken and re-imagined in order to reconstruct.”
